Chunk's best friend!

There's a new bulldog on the street!  Meet Riggins (Hail to the Redskins!) an 11 month old English Bulldog who lives a few houses down from us.  He and Chunk play everyday and just love each other.  They bite, bite, bite then roll, run, lay down, drink water and start all over again.

Happy Halloween from Chunk!

We took Chunk to a local "Dogtoberfest" and entered him in the costume contest.  The crowd loved him and everyone was laughing and pointing at our adorable bully.  He doesn't mind his costume at all!  He came in 2nd place and won a big tote bag full of food, toys and treats.  Of course, we think he should have one first place!

English Bulldogs are the laziest dogs in the world!

It's a fact!  We saw it on Dogs 101 on Animal Planet the other night.  Chunk enjoyed watching it, too!  He likes to watch television that feature dogs, cartoons or football, in that order.

A prime example of bulldog laziness:

9am--Chunk & I get up, have breakfast and play outside.
9:30 am--I decide to give Chunk a bath, because his "Stinkles" (that's his wrinkles when they get dirty) well, stink!
I fill his tub, scrub him, rinse him, dry him, brush him, and let him dry outside for a while. Oh, and brush his teeth!

11am--He can barely keep his eyes open.  All of this sitting around while I pamper him has worn him out.  I put him in his crate with a dental chew.  I can hear him snoring as I type.

Bulldog Mom tips

If you have ever had a bulldog, knew someone who had a bulldog, or even just have SEEN a bulldog...you know that they are different from most other dogs.  Really, they are a mess.

They slobber.  Those jowls hold water and it drips everywhere.  Their "smush nose" means that they can't just sniff things like most dogs, they have to put their whole face into dirt, grass, mulch.  So, when Chunk comes inside, I have an old hand towel ready!  His face, mouth and paws all need to be wiped before he comes inside.  He's gotten used to this and just sits there and lets me clean him up.

So, Bulldog Mom Tip #1--Save any old washcloth, hand towel, or bath towel.  You'll need them!  Baby wipes are best for wiping their little butts.  We'll save that for another post.  :)

Chunk's Wednesday

We take a walk to a friend's house, 5 houses down.  It's a hot day so Chunk is done walking in about 10 minutes.

Later, we meet another friend with her dog for a "play date" to the local dog park.  Again, it's hot, so Chunk is moving at a snail's pace.  (Or maybe a bulldog's pace!)

We go to the dog park, and Chunk's favorite thing there is the doggie water fountain, which is at ground level for him.  He drinks and drinks until his tummy expands.

Next, he finds the ONLY mud puddle in the whole park.  Of course he has to dig in it.  Now his paws and face are covered in dirt.  He then waddles over to the bench where my friend and I are talking.  There's a hole under the bench that a previous dog park visitor had dug.  I guess that Chunk is glad to find a shady spot, because he flops down in the hole, belly in the dirt.  He definitely will need a bath  when we get home!

Since a storm is approaching, we head home.  I put Chunk in his outdoor wash tub.  He's worn out so he's resting his head on the edge of the tub the entire time.  It starts to rain, but there's no way I can take him inside--he's filthy AND wet!  So we quickly finish his bath and get him inside.  Put some peanut butter in his Kong, and he's snoring within 5 minutes.  Only Chunk can make a play date turn out to be work for me!

Because he's just so darn cute.....
